Whitestone Gallery Hong Kong / H Queen's is showcasing the works of the esteemed artist, Tsuguharu Fujita (Léonard Foujita) , a leading figure of the Ecole de Paris movement.
Born in Japan, Fujita gained French citizenship in 1955 and started working under the name Leonard Foujita. He was widely acclaimed in Paris and is remembered for his interactions with iconic artists such as Picasso and Modigliani. Before his time in France, Foujita was also influential in the Japanese art scene.
Jiro Yoshihara, whose work is often exhibited at Whitestone Gallery, was encouraged by Fujita to participate in the Nika exhibition, spurred by his advice: “Don’t imitate anyone.”
These words were later passed on to the members of the Gutai Art Association, who were repeatedly told by Yoshihara, “Create what has never been done before!”
