MADARA MANJI: Antagonism and Transcendence
Karuizawa Gallery2, 3
April 26 - May 21, 2017
Whitestone Gallery Karuizawa is pleased to announce the solo exhibition “Antagonism and Transcendence” by MADARA MANJI; the Tokyo-based artist makes metal sculptures based on Mokume-gane which also known as toreutics, the traditional Japanese technique. The consistent creative theme for the artist is how to express the contradiction or discrepancy that all human beings bear essentially in the nature. By developing his own theory and philosophy about life and death, the artist gets straight to the sensitivity of human beings; through artworks, MADARA MANJI encourages the viewers to have hope in uneven processes of the life itself. This show is actual debut for his artistic career; in this exhibition, more than 10 works alongside with large-scale works, which will overturn the fixed image of toreutics, will be displayed. We would like to take this precious opportunity to invite you to visit us.
