GO YAYANAGI: POP UKI
June 23 - July 22, 2018
Whitestone Gallery Taipei Zhong Xiao is pleased to present Go Yayanagi’s solo exhibition “Pop-Uki”, a term invented by artist himself to reflect the peculiarity of his paintings and sculptural works from 1960 onward.
“Pop-Uki” comes from blending of “pop art” and “Ukiyo-e”, named after Yayanagi’s signature style of paintings and prints with clean and refined black lines and bright colors. Yayanagi believes that Ukiyo-e is a traditional form of Japanese pop art and he tries to filter contemporary pop culture and his experiences through this traditional form with a new aesthetical approach. His work also reveals the influence of his extensive travels to Europe, South America, and other places.
Go Yayanagi’s art has been collected by museums worldwide, including The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Municipal Museum of Modern Art (Paris), The National Museum of Modern Art (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka), and more.
We cordially invite you to come visit to this precious opportunity.
