Whitestone Ginza New Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition“VOID” of Yu Kawashima. Nowadays, we are surrounded by fast changing environment and full of visual information media and technology such as television, magazines, SNS. Kawashima passed his childhood in countryside abundant in nature, so that he has an innate sense of discomfort with the artificial and non-organic world at the bottom of his heart. Kawashima feels strong ‘anxiety’ with the future as the time changes and modern society becomes disquiet. The social turmoil and extraordinary situation brought by the worldwide pandemic of the plague can be said that our everyday life is full of ‘anxiety’ in the uncertain future. To live through the difficult times in such modern society, it is necessary to reconsider the existence of ourselves and reality, and for an artist it is a behavior of drawing a picture itself. Visualizing the inner world of one’s self is a method of searching one’s existence. Time of ‘Void’ in this exhibition would be a sign of a transition place for human to be strong and gaining a power ‘to live’. We look forward to welcoming you to this precious opportunity.
