Yuko Nasaka's works have been made by a very unusual production method. She places a canvas on a turntable like a potter's wheel, rotates it, and then places a paintbrush on it. Then, a circle is formed in accordance with the rotation. By repeating the process many times, various circles are repeated, creating an abstract and automatic painting.
Nasaka has a great interest in rotating objects. She was once asked about Marcel Duchamp's Rotorelief, a video work of rotating figures. When asked if she was interested in such things, she replied, "I am very interested.” It seems that Nasaka was not interested in Duchamp as a master of art, but was much more interested in Duchamp's work with spinning objects.
