NOBUKO WATABIKI

Lives and works in Hamburg, Germany, since 2008. Studies printing at Musashino Art School. While working at the advertising company and the nursing institution for the handicapped, she starts devoting to her art. Watabiki explores the photo collage works at the beginning and gradually establishes her distinctive style that uses washi paper, textile and oil pastel. Her theme extends from self-examination to engagement with others. The intriguing motif and the prosaic title leave unforgettable resonance. Nominated two years consecutive for VOCA Exhibition which is considered as the gateway to success for rising talents in 1997 and 1998. Her exhibitions are highly appreciated not only in Japan but also Europe mainly in Germany, South America, etc. Since 2011 joins the project TEGAMI which delivers letters to encourage and support people in Fukushima.
