Beijing

2024.12.21 - 2025.02.08

Whitestone Gallery Beijing is pleased to announce the forthcoming group exhibition ‘Boundless Forms and Colors’ scheduled from December 21, 2024, to February 8, 2025. This exhibition will feature artists from China, Japan, and Korea, uniting the remarkable works of six distinguished artists: Yasuo Sumi (Japan), Bao Pei, Yu Li, Li Wei & Liu Zhiyin, Jiang Miao, and Lee Chae (Korea). Each artist delves into the infinite extensions and possibilities of 'Form' and 'Color' through their distinct artistic styles and creative methods, showcasing a rich diversity rooted in their various cultural backgrounds.

'Form' and 'Color' not only serve as fundamental components of visual expression but also act as conduits through which artists explore culture, nature, and personal experiences. ‘Boundless Forms and Colors’ investigates the harmonies of Eastern aesthetics across diverse cultural landscapes through an array of artistic expressions. From improvisational abstract gestures to contemporary interpretations of traditional philosophies, and from nuanced emotional depictions to profound reflections on nature, this exhibition encapsulates the breadth and depth of artistic exploration and cultural dialogue.

Lee Chae

Lee Chae is a South Korean artist born in 1989. He graduated from Gacheon University's University for the Arts with majors in painting and Eastern painting. Subsequently, he received his master’s degree in fine art from Hongik University.

Lee Chae paints with oil on canvas, typically including his characteristic deep blue color in peaceful compositions. Though blue is often thought of as a 'cold' color, Lee interprets this shade as that of the calm of winter awaiting the promise of a new spring. Lee portrays natural elements of various sizes in his paintings, such as flower petals, branches, trees, and forests, in a rhythmical, abstract way.

Through Lee Chae's precision and the careful way he applies each line of paint, he projects ideas of 'meditation' and 'repetitive action.' Lee works in quiet concentration. With the utmost care, he wipes a thin layer of paint onto the canvas and, without leaving any unwanted marks, he slowly spreads the paint. By using this meditative process, Lee Chae spreads messages of 'peace' and 'healing' to the viewer in his artworks.
