A star was born.
And night will come.
Karen Shiozawa brings the miracle of a fantastic night.

A story with a star that no one has ever seen.
Over a thousand nights, thinking about nostalgic galaxies.
« 千の夜 - Thousand Nights », is the first solo exhibition of young Japanese artist Karen Shiozawa in Whitestone Gallery Singapore, from 16th November to 29th December 2024. The exhibition featuring her new works seeks to explore the deep relationship between humans and the universe, beyond the past and future.

Shiozawa's works intertwine memories of the past with current realities and unknown memories. Today, it merges her childhood in the Netherlands together with her experience as an artist. Through the exhibition, viewers will have the opportunity to evoke their own childhood senses and scenery. With hands that fill the surface of a wooden panel with bright colors, then covered with darker shades, the artist portrays landscapes, architecture and images of children. Through the method of stained glass and European-style architecture, the works are illuminated by the light exuding from vivid colors, resulting in the effect of inviting viewers into this world.

The exhibition features drawings and images, allowing visitors to cross their own concept of time and space, rediscovering the deep connection between stars and humans.

Shiozawa hopes that the light in her work and exhibition will lead to a galaxy of imagination, where they can experience a journey of stars that freely jump through dreams and reality, past and future.
This feeling of nostalgia that cannot be defined by words will shine like stars through her art.

She was awarded the Best Formative Art Prize at the Asian Creative Art Exhibition 2018 held at The National Art Center, Tokyo.
She was also awarded the Outstanding Performance Prize at the 48th Art Festival Tokyo-ten Exhibition 2022 held at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. In 2020, her works are acquired by Deji Art Museum in China.

"Real, true world - it would be the memory of the world which could once exist or the appearance of the future that I have not seen yet."
"People who saw my artworks recognize the worlds which could exist countlessly and can feel an admiration or nostalgia for the bright and unfathomable extent of space which can be seen through the gap of those worlds, then they can open many doors of imagination." "Connecting people’s consciousness and sense, realization and recognition, I would like to create artworks which could catch the heat and sound which could not be noticed in the real world.
