Ginza New Gallery

2024.06.28 - 07.27

Whitestone Ginza New Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition titled "find," featuring the works of two exceptional artists: ARTIST miu and icco Yoshimura.

In today's increasingly complex society, the small joys of everyday life, new discoveries, and profound insights expressed through art have brought these two artists together for this exhibition. The works on display aim to convey these realizations, inviting visitors to find happiness in this opportunity.

ARTIST miu, born in 1975 in Hyogo Prefecture, discovered art as a refuge during a childhood marked by low self-esteem and shyness. Grappling with the disparity between her inner self and outer appearance, she found solace in painting, achieving a unity of body and soul. Her artworks, characterized by colorful resin poured into round holes on cement-coated panels, transform the cement's "negativity and shadow" into vibrant expressions of "positivity and light," offering "hope" and "happiness" to contemporary viewers.

ABOUT

ARTIST miu

ARTIST miu

Born in 1975 in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, ARTIST miu is a graduate of Takarazuka University of Art and Design Painting Course. She studied under Shozo Shimamoto, a former member of the Gutai Art Association, and learned the spirit of the Gutai - creating something that has yet to exist. Her works pursue the concept of converting the negative, cold element associated with cement into a positively charged art piece bursting with vitality to invoke love and hope in the minds of our modern society.

icco Yoshimura, born in 1987 in Kyoto Prefecture, grew up in a family that ran a French restaurant. From a young age, she spent time in the kitchen and dining area, illustrating wine bottles and tableware on scraps of paper. The joy and significance of sharing meals with loved ones have continually inspired her work. Since 2020, her art has predominantly focused on "the joy of spending time with people," using various mediums and acrylic gouache to create vivid, colorful worlds on canvas and in sculptures.
