The Ashiya City Exhibition was a public exhibition launched by the Ashiya City Art Association and Ashiya City, and Jiro Yoshihara served as a member of this jury. Many avant-garde young artists participated in this exhibition, and many new art works were exhibited.
Since there were no restrictions in size and artists from outside the city were allowed to enter, the exhibition became a place for many talented newcomers to show their work. Among the entries, the best and newest works were discovered, and at Yoshihara's suggestion, members were scouted to join Gutai, bringing a new style to the organization.
