Gutai Art Manifesto

This declaration was published in the December 1956 issue of Geijutsu Shincho. In the first half, the purpose and essence of Gutai art is explained, criticizing the fact that conventional art treats matter as material and transforms it into a work of art. The second half of the presentation introduces the works of the Gutai members and their works, and explains that the Gutai is not a reproduction of art, but the creation of a subjective space. The second half of the document introduces the work of the Gutai members and their new approach to artistic production. This three-page declaration consists of a document, the actual artwork, and photographs of the Gutai members working on it.
