Back to IndexInternational Sky Festival
After the open air and the stage, the sky was the next place to present works.
In April 1960, many ad-balloons were raised from the roof of the Takashimaya Department Store in Osaka. The balloons were decorated with the flags of each country and huge paintings that were enlarged and reproduced by Gutai members from all over the world, and they were fluttering in the sky. It was the first exhibition in the world to use the sky as an exhibition venue, and also the first exhibition to display works by artists from around the world other than the Gutai members.
