Tsuguharu Fujita

In 1929, when Fujita temporarily returned to Japan, Yoshihara had the opportunity to meet and talk with him. Yoshihara showed his works to Fujita. After seeing the work, Fujita said that Yoshihara's work was not worthy of recognition because it was only an imitation and was influenced by other artists.
Yoshihara was greatly affected by these words and vowed that he would never imitate anyone again.
The slogan of Gutai, "Don't imitate others," was born in Yoshihara's mind at this time, and it was passed on to the members of Gutai, becoming the driving force behind the group's creation of unprecedented art.
