PROFILE

Han Youngwook, a Korean artist, completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine arts at Hongik University, a renowned institution known for its exceptional art department in Korea. During his time there, he focused on refining his painting techniques and developing his skills in working with various materials. Embracing the artistic traditions of Hyperrealism, he incorporated them as an integral part of his creative expression.
Throughout his artistic career, Han has often questioned the very nature of painting itself. He contemplates whether artists merely depict what the image demands, or if there is a discrepancy between factual representation and the essence of the subject. In response to these inquiries, Han employs extensive lines in his artworks, seeking to enable viewers to perceive the genuine truth and experience something truly unprecedented.
Han’s preferred subject matter revolves around ‘anonymous portraits.’ He believes that these portraits not only capture the irregularities in human society and life but also embody Han’s love and trust in humanism at their core.
In 2006, Han received awards for his works, including the Grand Prize at the 7th Sin-SalmDang Grand Art Exhibition and the Grand Prize at the 34th Kang-Won Grand Art Exhibition. Since his initial solo exhibition at Galerie Bhak in Seoul, he has showcased his art extensively worldwide, with exhibitions held in various cities such as Karlsruhe (Germany), Miami (USA), Tokyo (Japan), and Shanghai (China)
