向井修二
1959年，向井修二与具体派领导人吉原治良相遇。吉原高度赞赏向井的才华，1961年他成为该团体最年轻的成员。向井的作品由数字和各种类型的符号组成，这些符号充满了画布和空间，有时也是艺术家本人的身体。吉原称赞他的作品为「乍看冰冷冷的，却蕴含着激烈的能量」。
1964年，向井修二的作品于《新日本绘画与雕刻》（纽约近代美术馆企划，至1967年为止进行全美巡回）展出。尔后策展人威廉· S · 李伯曼更将其作品纳入纽约近代美术馆典藏中。1966年时将大阪梅田的爵士乐主题咖啡厅「Check」的内部以符号填满，发表日本首度全数用符号布满装潢的装置艺术。
向井为所罗门· R ·古根海姆美术馆 2013 年具体回顾展《具体：灿烂的游乐场》重现了他在第八届具体艺术展中著名的符号室，并用数百万个符号覆盖了博物馆电梯和洗手间的每个表面。2017年，为纽约改装新开幕的路易威登苏活店，创作室内装置（彼得· 马力诺策划），而受到多方瞩目。
