Whitestone Gallery Tokyo is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Tsuyoshi Maekawa: Contact Point. Maekawa is one of the representative figures from the second generation of Gutai Art Association, prominent Japanese avant-garde art movement in the post-war era. The characteristic of Maekawa consists in his lifelong persistence of burlap and pursuit for its materiality with his bold expressions. International acclaims for the artist is also shooting up, first class museums and galleries such as Tate Modern (London), M+Museum (Hong Kong), The Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago) add Maekawa’s work to the collection. In this year (2017), Gagosian Gallery San Francisco holds the solo exhibition Beyond Matter, consecutively, Lévy Gorvy Gallery chooses Maekawa as their first-run project at the salon of Saatchi Gallery (London).
