The most famous of Yoshihara's paintings is the circle. Although many things have been said about this motif, one guess is that Yoshihara was initially trying to depict punctuation marks. In some of Yoshihara's works, " In some of Yoshihara's works, "," is written together with "。". If it is purely a circle, it can be connected with Zen (for example, Sengai's paintings in Japanese style), but Yoshihara seems to have started as a painter based on the idea of Surrealism, not Oriental thought, so I feel that he was inspired by typography and Malevich (the forefathers of minimal art). I At some point in his career, Gutai's paintings shifted from a rough, chaotic style that developed from his first actions to a smart, organized style. It is interesting to trace the history of Gutai and see this transition through his works.
